El Castillo museum & restaurant

The old town of La Isabela, or Villa Isabela, was the first European settlement in the New World. The town’s first inhabitant was Christopher Columbus, who on his second trip to the Americas in 1494 settled here along with 1,500 other inhabitants.

Inside the park, you can visit the Archaeological Museum of La Isabela, the first buildings such as the first cemetery, the house of Admiral Christopher Columbus and the way of life of the first European settlers, as well as the Temple of the Americas or Shrine of Jesus Christ the Evangelist. This small church is a beautiful reconstruction built upon its ruins.
